Before, we discussed donor bonds and their existence. How they are formed and what can happen with them. Today, we are going to discuss how the vampire and the donor can both take steps to keep these from occurring in the first place.
Sure enough, the vampire can learn how to be in control of themselves to keep it from happening. So in truth, stopping donor bonds is their responsibility primarily and not the donor’s. However, some people aren’t trained for it, or don’t realize it can happen to them, or are just assholes. Meaning, they know how to stop the bond from forming but allow it for whatever purpose they have in mind.
Here is how to protect yourself:
For vampires, being in control of yourself and your emotions can actually make this much easier. This is achieved through constant practice of meditation. There are many forms out there. Practice that which you are most comfortable with. This is important because you are made aware of what is you and yours, and what is connecting from outside of you. Knowing this, you can simply brush off the latter, cut it off, whatever method you prefer.
The second is of course the basic shielding. This can be done by vampires and donors. Contrary to common practice, I would not suggest you use your own energy for a shield as this at will simply drain you in the long run. I would suggest starting with simple metals like iron, silver, and copper. Use the composition and energy of the metal to create a shield around you. This does limit and cut off a lot of your outside senses as it’s a heavy shield. It can make you farsighted blind, and difficult to hear at any distance. So practice being able to do it quickly and only use it when needed. Don’t want you unable to see or hear something coming when the shield is not necessary after all.
At the end of the day though, you should know who you are going to be feeding. Ask questions, talk, and get to know them before it all. The same of course can be said of the vampire even if you aren’t going to form a bond; the act itself can be deeply personal. Stay safe, stay informed, and above all, stay learning!
